DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO WÜRZBURG
For visitors to Würzburg who are unfamiliar with the city, allocating at least half a day for an introductory tour of the Old Town's sights is highly recommended. One of the highlights of this tour is the Residence Palace, widely regarded as one of Europe's most distinguished Baroque castles. Designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1981, the palace boasts exquisite architecture and a rich history waiting to be explored.
As you wander through the Old Town, don't miss the opportunity to stroll across the historic Alte Mainbrücke (Old Main Bridge). From this vantage point, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of Fortress Marienberg, the charming pilgrimage church known as the "Käppele," and the renowned vineyards that dot the landscape. Whether you're an art enthusiast, history buff, or simply a curious traveler, Würzburg offers an abundance of attractions and landmarks to captivate your interest and enrich your visit.

DAY 2: WÜRZBURG - LOHR AM MAIN | Approx. 37 miles / 60 km
Indulge in a relaxing break by taking a leisurely stroll through the renowned Veitshöchheim Rococo Garden, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. Immerse yourself in the beauty of its meticulously manicured landscapes and intricate designs, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Afterward, consider pausing for refreshments at one of the charming establishments in Veitshöchheim.
Continuing your journey, make sure to include a brief stop in the historic Old Town of Karlstadt. Explore its quaint streets, adorned with charming architecture and rich history, and perhaps enjoy a delightful meal or a cup of coffee at one of the local cafes. As you proceed, don't miss the opportunity to visit Lohr am Main, a picturesque town nestled in the Main-Spessart administrative district. Its fairytale-like Old Town center exudes charm and character, offering a wealth of noteworthy sights to explore. Take your time to wander through its cobblestone streets, admire its architectural treasures, and immerse yourself in the enchanting ambiance of this delightful town.

DAY 3: LOHR AM MAIN - WERTHEIM | Approx. 27 miles / 44 km
As you journey along the cycle path, the majestic Castle Rothenfels stands proudly on the opposite riverbank, overlooking the quaint village of Rothenfels. With its modest population of around 700 inhabitants, Rothenfels holds the distinction of being the smallest municipality in Bavaria with a town charter. Continuing your exploration, the path leads you through the historic town of Marktheidenfeld, where the echoes of an old shipyard resonate through the streets, offering glimpses into its maritime past. Venturing further, you'll encounter the charming villages of Homburg and Urphar, each adorned with architectural treasures that speak to their rich heritage and storied past.
Finally, your journey brings you to the city of Wertheim, where the imposing Wertheim Castle welcomes you with open arms. Extra Info | terranova customer reviews
  • SKILL LEVEL:
EASY: Rating a bike tour is one of the hardest things we do. What you find difficult or easy depends on your own personal physical condition and training. The total distance is approx. 236 km. The entire route is flat and well signed. The cycle-path is nearly car-free and is mostly paved. It is rated as a 5-Star cycling path. If you are concerned and don’t want to worry about your own fitness and ability, we recommend an electric bike.

  • DAY OF DEPARTURE
Daily departure between april and october.

  • AIRPORT INFO
The closest and largest international airport to your tour start and end is Frankfurt International Airport (FRA), located 120 km from Würzburg. There are good direct train connections between Würzburg and Frankfurt Airport. We do offer private transfers including bike-transport if this service is wanted.

  • LOCAL TRAVEL
Frankfurt Airport railway station is a railway station is located next to the main ground-side passenger terminal of the airport. Here you can access high-speed trains running directly to Würzburg. The train station in Würzburg is still one mile from your hotel so you will need to take a taxi or a tram. Train travel time is approx. 1 1/2 hours. Train travel costs vary but will be between €50 - €110 per person. If you prefer a private transfer from the airport to your first hotel, this can be arranged. Please see pricing.

The rental bikes are comfortable 28” trekking bike, equipped with Shimano eight-speed gearbox or a new 24-speed chain/gear hub with freewheel. All bikes are equipped with a rack (rear wheel) and ideal for multi-day trips with bike panniers.

    • Electric Bike: In addition to touring bikes, e-bikes (pedelecs) are also offered from the brands EBIKE / Velo de Ville / Kreidler. These are all equipped with a powerful battery and have a BOSCH or SHIMANO mid-engine, which will give you a pleasant tailwind on your bike tour.

  • CLIMATE
The climate in the Main-region is mild with warm summers and moderate winters. Some parts can therefore almost be described as Mediterranean and owes it fame in wine growing to the warm and sunny climate. From April to October, the weather is ideal for cycling and discovering the beauties of this region. Please do check the local conditions before your arrival.

  • IMPORTANT TO KNOW
Absolutely, staying informed about travel restrictions and entry requirements is crucial for a smooth and hassle-free journey. I recommend regularly checking the Travel Restrictions Tool page provided by your travel agency or relevant government authorities. Additionally, visiting the official government websites of the countries you plan to visit will provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding entry requirements, visa regulations, health protocols, and any other travel advisories. Keeping abreast of any changes or updates will help ensure a safe and seamless travel experience.
  • Documents: Before you travel, please check the passport and visa requirements of the country/countries you plan to visit. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have proper identification. For US citizens, the U.S. Passports & International Travel website is a good source of information. The Country Information tab provides details about passport validity, blank passport pages required, etc. It is important to research before you travel as airlines will not permit boarding if you do not have the required valid documents.
  • Insurance: Before traveling, we strongly recommend you review your personal insurance and health insurance to ensure you have coverage appropriate to meet your needs, and the needs of your family and dependants, in case of any loss of property or illness, injury, or death.
