Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Luxembourg:
Probably few cities are as familiar to us by name and yet at the same time as unknown as Luxembourg. Did you know that the city has UNESCO World Heritage status? Contrasts meet here: Europe's modern model state is still ruled by a grand duke, the capital is cosmopolitan and sometimes seems a little provincial. In the evening, enjoy the culinary diversity in one of the countless cosy restaurants. Overnight stay in Luxembourg.
Day 2: Luxembourg - Trier | Approx. 45 miles / 73 km
You leave the city of Luxembourg via the deeply incised valley of the River Alzette. Buildings such as the Palais de Justice and the Ducal Palace stand out at the top, while the city has a village-like feel at the bottom. Small houses with gardens seem almost a little lost in the European city. The casemates bear witness to the old days. Today's cycle route through Luxembourg is well signposted on small country roads, through tiny villages, hilly countryside with green forests and colourful fields. A romantic panorama of vineyards and forests surrounds the town of Remich like an amphitheatre with the Moselle as its backdrop.
Once you reached the Moselle, you will pedal on a perfect cycle-riverpath. As the flagship of Luxembourg's winegrowing, the region on the German-French border has always maintained its own style and character. The good reputation of its wines and crémants is attracting more and more passionate wine lovers to the Luxembourg Moselle. At Konz you pass the mouth of the Saar, from here it is not far to Trier. There are no comparable magnificent buildings from Roman times north of the Alps. For a time, the entire Roman Empire was ruled from here. Come and get a flavour of antiquity. The imperial palace has survived numerous wars and today serves as a Protestant church. It still impresses today with its imperial grandeur. Just how small and insignificant the supplicants on Constantine's throne must have felt can only be appreciated by those who make the journey from the entrance to the altar themselves. Overnight stay in Trier
Day 3: Trier - Bernkastel-Kues/Zeltingen | Approx. 37 - 43 miles / 60-70 km
Today's cycling route along the banks of the Moselle promises a tranquil journey through picturesque wine villages, each brimming with charm and history.
