The Moselle valley is one of the most diverse and loveliest river valleys in Europe, with its numerous picturesque river loops, vine covered slopes, romantic wine towns and historic cities. We can offer this tour either as a selfguided tour with departures throughout the season or as a guided grouptour (prices and dates on request).

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival - Trier
Individual arrival to the oldest city of Germany. Allow the last 2000 years to pass by in a time lapse during a city round trip and discover world-known attractions. In the evening, you can enjoy the unique Riesling wine in one of the traditional wine taverns in Trier, as well as the atmosphere which is steeped in history. 

Day 2: Trier - Trittenheim | Approx. 23 miles / 27km
Today, the route leads you on the bank of the Moselle through tranquil wine villages. From Trittenheim, you can reach the other riverbank by crossing one of the oldest bridges and view the old, preserved ferry towers. You can enjoy a wonderful view over the Moselle valley from the vineyards above the village.

Day 3: Trittenheim - Bernkastel-Kues/Zeltingen | Approx. 17 - 22 miles / 27 - 35 km
Passing the oldest wine village in Germany, Neumagen-Dhron, you arrive at Piesport, where an impressively restored roman cellar, dating back to the 4th century, awaits you. It is worthwhile to take a side-trip to the famous wine village Bernkastel-Kues and visit the paved market square, which is surrounded by half-timbered houses. Zeltingen displays a number of grand baroque buildings in Moselle tradition.

Day 4: Bernkastel-Kues/Zeltingen - Zell
| Approx. 21 - 25 miles / 33- 40 km
Countless wine slopes are a cheer to the heart, inviting you to take part in a wine-tasting in one of the traditional taverns. After passing Traben-Trarbach, you will arrive at the Moselle loop in Zell, called the „Zeller Hamm“. The Marienburg castle, around 900 years old, sits enthroned on the mountain ridge.

Day 5: Zell - Treis-Karden | Approx. 29 miles / 47 km
Enjoy a wonderful view on Europe’s steepest vineyard, the Calmont. You have a spectacular view over the Moselle valley from the peak. You will arrive in Cochem, known for its imposing fortress complexes as well as for the Reichsburg castle, a landmark of german castle romance.

Day 6: Treis-Karden - Koblenz
| Approx. 24 miles / 38km
In Moselkern, it is worthwhile to take a small detour to the nearby Burg Eltz (castle). The Moselle mouths into the Rhine by Koblenz. A splendid panorama view awaits you, when taking the cable car up to the Ehrenbreitstein fortress (incl.).

Day 7: Koblenz - departure
Individual departure from Koblenz.

  • SKILL LEVEL:
    EASY: Rating a bike tour is one of the hardest things we do. What you find difficult or easy depends on your own personal physical condition and training. The total distance is approx. 190 km | 118 miles. The entire route is flat and well signed. The Moselle-cycle-path is nearly car-free and is mostly paved. It is rated as a 5-Star cycling path. If you are concerned and don’t want to worry about your own fitness and ability, we recommend an electric bike.

  • AIRPORT INFO
    The closest and largest international airport to your tour start and end is Frankfurt International Airport (FRA), located 185 km from Trier and 115 km from Koblenz. There are good train connections between Trier/Koblenz and Frankfurt Airport. If you prefer a private transfer from the airport to your first hotel, this can be arranged. Please see pricing. Optional you can also use the international airport if Luxemburg as gateway to Trier / Koblenz.
     
  • LOCAL TRAVEL
    Frankfurt Airport railway station is a railway station is located next to the main ground-side passenger terminal of the airport. Here you can access trains running via Koblenz to Trier. The train station in Trier is still one mile from your hotel so you will need to take a taxi or a local bus. Train travel time is approx. 2 1/2 hours. Train travel costs vary but will be between €50 - €110 per person. If you prefer a private transfer from the airport to your first hotel, this can be arranged. Please see pricing. From Luxembourg Aiport you can take a direct Bus to Trier.

    The destination of the trip is Koblenz. From Koblenz you can easily reach Frankfurt Airport in around 2 hours by train. To Luxemburg airport you can also take the train.
     
  • RENTAL BIKES
    Touring Bike: The rental bikes are comfortable 28” trekking bike, equipped with Shimano eight-speed gearbox or a new 24-speed chain/gear hub with freewheel. You can choose between a male model (with top-tube) and a unisex model with low-step frame. Both are available in different frame sizes. The handlebars are ergonomically shaped. All bikes are equipped with a rack (rear wheel) and ideal for multi-day trips with bike panniers.
     
  • Electric Bike: In addition to touring bikes, e-bikes (pedelecs) are also offered from the brands EBIKE / Velo de Ville / Kreidler. These are all equipped with a powerful battery and have a BOSCH or SHIMANO mid-engine, which will give you a pleasant tailwind on your bike tour.
     
  • CLIMATE
    The climate in the Mosel-region is mild with warm summers and moderate winters. Some parts can therefore almost be described as Mediterranean and owes it fame in wine growing to the warm and sunny climate. From April to October, the weather is ideal for cycling and discovering the beauties of this region. Please do check the local conditions before your arrival.
