Itinerary:

Day 1: From Frankfurt to Mainz | Approx. 26 miles / 42 kilometers by bike
After a relaxing night in the old Roman city of Mainz, you cycle today along the Rhine. Important wine towns and fantastic views are waiting for you. After you have passed the picturesque town of Eltville, you will reach the world-famous wine town of Rüdesheim am Rhein. A detour to the Niederwald monument with the chairlift is highly recommended. The view from the top is fantastic. Behind Rüdesheim, you change to the other side of the river. Soon already you will see Kaub with it’s almost 700-year-old toll castle , which stands on a small island in the middle of the Rhine. The tour continues through the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Upper Middle Rhine Valley”. The cultural landscape is characterized by winegrowing. After a break in the picturesque town of Bacharach with many photo-motifs, you will reach Oberwesel. The small town still has parts of its city wall with 16 defensive towers. The medieval castle Schönburg is perched high on the valley trail. The many wine taverns invite you to a glass of wine and tasty specialties from the region.

Day 2: From Mainz to Oberwesel | Approx. 40 miles / 64 kilometers by bike
After a rejuvenating night in the historic Roman city of Mainz, your cycling adventure unfolds along the scenic banks of the Rhine River. Prepare to be enchanted by charming wine towns and breathtaking vistas that await you on this picturesque route.
As you pedal past the idyllic town of Eltville, renowned for its beauty and viticultural heritage, you'll soon arrive at the world-famous wine destination of Rüdesheim am Rhein. Make sure to take a detour to the Niederwald monument via the chairlift for an unforgettable panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.   • SKILL LEVEL
    EASY: Rating a bike tour is one of the hardest things we do. What you find difficult or easy depends on your own personal physical condition and training. The total distance is approx. 221 miles / 356 km. The entire route is flat and well signed. The cycle-path is nearly car-free and is mostly paved. It is rated as a 5-Star cycling path. If you are concerned and don’t want to worry about your own fitness and ability, we recommend an electric bike.

  • AIRPORT INFO
    The closest and largest international airport to your tour start and end is Frankfurt International Airport (FRA), located 185 km from Trier. There are good train connections between Trier and Frankfurt Airport (around 4,5 hours). We do offer private transfers including bike-transport if this service is wanted (2,5 hours).
     
  • LOCAL TRAVEL
    Frankfurt Airport railway station is a railway station is located next to the main ground-side passenger terminal of the airport. Here you can access high-speed trains running directly to the city center of Frankfurt. Train travel between Trier and Frankfurt airport costs vary but will be between €50 - €110 per person. 
     
  • RENTAL BIKES
    Touring Bike: The rental bikes are comfortable 28” trekking bike, equipped with Shimano eight-speed gearbox or a new 24-speed chain/gear hub with freewheel. You can choose between a male model (with top-tube) and a unisex model with low-step frame. Both are available in different frame sizes. The handlebars are ergonomically shaped. All bikes are equipped with a rack (rear wheel) and ideal for multi-day trips with bike panniers.

    E-Bike: In addition to touring bikes, e-bikes (pedelecs) are also offered from the brands Velo de Ville and Kalkhoff. These are all equipped with a powerful battery and have a BOSCH or SHIMANO mid-engine, which will give you a pleasant tailwind on your bike tour.
     
  • CLIMATE
    The climate in the Rhine, Moselle -region is mild with warm summers and moderate winters. Some parts can therefore almost be described as Mediterranean and owes it fame in wine growing to the warm and sunny climate. From April to October, the weather is ideal for cycling and discovering the beauties of this region. Please do check the local conditions before your arrival.
