Day 1: From Frankfurt to Mainz | Approx. 26 miles / 42 kilometers by bike
Today's bike route takes you from Frankfurt, following the scenic path along the River Main to the medieval old town of Höchst. Once a part of the Archbishopric of Main, Höchst is now a district of Frankfurt. After a leisurely break, perhaps indulging in local delights like Ebbelwoi (apple wine) and handkäs with music (a regional cheese dish), the journey continues towards Eddersheim. Passing through vineyards and charming old towns, you'll soon reach the confluence of the Main and Rhine rivers. Crossing the Rhine, you'll arrive at Mainz, the capital of Rhineland-Palatinate, boasting a history spanning over 2000 years. After a restful night in the ancient Roman city of Mainz, your journey continues today along the picturesque Rhine River. Prepare to be enchanted by charming wine towns and breathtaking vistas along the way. Passing through the scenic town of Eltville, you'll soon arrive at the world-renowned wine destination of Rüdesheim am Rhein. Don't miss the opportunity to take a detour to the Niederwald monument via chairlift for a truly magnificent panoramic view. As you leave Rüdesheim behind, crossing to the opposite bank of the river, the historic town of Kaub comes into view, dominated by its nearly 700-year-old toll castle perched on a small island in the middle of the Rhine.
Continuing your journey through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, characterized by its vineyard-draped hillsides, you'll find yourself in the picturesque town of Bacharach. Here, amidst countless photo opportunities, take a well-deserved break before pressing on to Oberwesel. This quaint town still boasts remnants of its medieval city wall, complete with 16 defensive towers. Keep an eye out for the imposing Schönburg Castle, majestically overlooking the valley trail. Day 3: From Oberwesel to Koblenz | Approx. 28 miles / 58 kilometers by bike
Continuing along the western left bank of the Rhine, your cycling adventure leads you between Urbar and St. Goar, where you'll be treated to a magnificent view of the world-famous and legendary Loreley Rock. According to folklore, a maiden would comb her golden locks atop the rock, enchanting sailors with her mesmerizing song, leading to their tragic demise. A bronze statue at the base of the rock commemorates this haunting legend. Pedaling onward, you'll reach Boppard, where a chairlift ride to the "Vierseenblick" promises a breathtaking panoramic view of the Rhine. Just a few kilometers beyond Boppard lies Koblenz, dominated by the imposing fortress of Ehrenbreitstein perched high above the city. Since the National Garden Show in 2011, visitors have enjoyed a scenic cable car ride from the Old Town across the Rhine to this historic Prussian stronghold.
