ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival in Geneva
Your guides will be waiting for you at the hotel reception in Geneva at 16:00 for a city walk through the "smallest metropolis in the world". In summer, Geneva shows its best side. The Jet d'eau fountain, over 140 meters high, is without question Geneva's landmark. The various panoramas over the largest inland lake in Western Europe will inspire you. In the evening, your guides will take you to your first dinner together. Overnight stay in Geneva.
Day 2: From Lake Geneva to Mont Blanc | Biking: 48 km, medium stage
In the morning you leave Geneva and take the terranova bus up to Mont Salève, Geneva's local mountain. Up here begins the panoramic bike route through the Savoy Alps. Again and again we will pause to let the views wander from the deep blue lake to the snow-covered Mont Blanc. A highlight is the crossing of the historic Pont de la Caille. This was one of the first wire rope suspension bridges in Europe and the highest bridge in the world until 1912. We then reach Annecy, pearl of the French Alps. Situated on the Lac d'Annecy, the magnificent old residence town of the Dukes of Geneva with its beautiful castle has an old town with arcaded houses worth seeing! In the afternoon you will be taken by bus to Chamonix. Chamonix has been the center of alpinism in France for centuries and home to many mountaineers and pioneers. Dinner and 1st night in the shadow of Mont Blanc in Chamonix.
Day 3: Across the Eternal Ice to the Aosta Valley | Biking: 35 km, easy stage
Glaciers and snow as far as the eye can see. Mont Blanc is winter all year round. The view of the mountain world that surrounds it is overwhelming. You can get especially close to it with perhaps the most spectacular cable car in the world. The aerial tramway to the summit of the 3,842 meter high Aiguille du Midi. From here, the view extends all the way to the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa and, of course, Mont Blanc. As if it were not spectacular enough, the cable car finds a continuation across the eternal ice. The Vallée Blanche cable car connects the Aiguille du Midi and the Pointe Helbronner over a distance of 5 km. The ride offers sweeping views of Mont Blanc and the surrounding rugged mountains and Vallée Blanche, which lies deep below the gondolas, Glacier du Géant, Glacier du Tacul and the Mer de Glace. Down into the Italian Valle d'Aosta, you'll ride a third cable car. E-bikes are waiting for you at the bottom station. Roman ruins, spectacular views, delicious mountain cheese and a touch of the south await you in the afternoon during an easy bike stage to the capital Aosta. Here, in the early evening, you will take a tour of the city's oldest and most important places of worship, passing through "secret" alleys and streets, past gardens, parks and ancient stonework. 1st night and dinner in Aosta.
Day 4: Matterhorn - symbol of Switzerland | Biking: 29 km, easy stage
In the morning you will cycle along a former railroad line through the Aosta Valley to lovely Châtillon. Then we will take you by terranova bus through one of the most beautiful side valleys of the Aosta Valley to Breuil-Cervinia. In the shadow of the Matterhorn, this little village is considered the birthplace of modern alpinism. From here, from the second half of the 19th century, mountaineers set out to conquer the summit of the Matterhorn. Numerous legends entwine around the courageous climbers of the past who, despite poor equipment, stopped at no summit and accomplished one pioneering feat after another. A long cherished vision became reality last year: the continuous connection between the Italian Cervinia and Zermatt by the cable car "Matterhorn Alpine Crossing". As the last piece of the puzzle, the Matterhorn Glacier Ride enables the highest continuous crossing of the Alps by cable car! Looking at the 38 four-thousand-meter peaks from the viewing platform, everyone is amazed. We spend the afternoon relaxing in Zermatt. The car-free resort has preserved its typical character and offers almost unlimited excursion possibilities. 1st overnight stay and dinner in Zermatt.
Day 5: Rest day in Zermatt
Today you can start the day in a relaxed way. After a tasty breakfast you will stroll through Zermatt. Afterwards, you will take the Gornergrat Bahn to Riffelalp. However, you should by no means see this ride as a mere approach, but as the first highlight of your excursion, as it offers you unique views of the alpine world. After lunch break on the panoramic terrace of Riffelalp, we start our optional hike back to Zermatt. The Swiss stone pine, the "Queen of the Alps", is as much a part of the Zermatt landscape as the Matterhorn and the glaciers. The wood, resin and needles of the Swiss stone pine contain the highly volatile substance pinosylvin. Its odor promotes well-being in humans. If the stone pine forest is under strong sunlight, the pleasant smell of this substance pampers the nose. But also your eyes will be spoiled today: different shades of green shine in the Swiss stone pine and larch forest. The ground is copper-colored because the tree needles cover the hiking path. And the waterfall that falls into the Findelbach in a bend at the side of the path is surprising. Free evening and second overnight stay in Zermatt. Our guides will be happy to give you some tips on where to stop.
Day 6: Glacier Express| Biking: 40 km, medium stage
The journey on the Glacier Express from Zermatt to Disentis is one of the most varied rail journeys in Europe. The route first leads from Zermatt down to Visp. From there, the train travels through the Mattertal valley via Brig, the capital of German-speaking Valais, to Oberwald. There, the panorama train enters the Furka Tunnel, which is a good 15.4 kilometers long, and then reaches Andermatt. Then begins one of the most beautiful sections of the route, which takes you over the 2,033-meter-high Oberalp Pass to Disentis (Mustér). The monastery of Disentis is located almost at the top of the Vorderrheintal of Graubünden.
Here your e-bikes are ready for a grandiose ride through the idyllic Grisons. One look back at the oldest existing Benedictine monastery north of the Alps - and you're already descending the still young, passionate Vorderrhein. Soon the mountain valley begins to open up: Surselva is the name given to the high valley of Flims, in German "über dem Wald". What is meant is the "Uaul Grond", one of the largest forest areas in Graubünden, with magnificent meadows and small lakes. "Welcome to Sumvitg" is written on the welcome board of the village of the same name. The all-pretty villages delight with handsome fountains. In Valendas you gaze in amazement at the wild gorge of the Vorderrhein! You will travel through the "Grand Canyon of Switzerland" to Chur by train in first class. 1st overnight stay and dinner in the middle of the old town of Chur. 40 km - Middle stage.
Day 7: Cycling tour on the Via Mala | Bikinng: 36 km, medium stage
During a city tour you will explore Chur, the oldest city in Switzerland. The vibrant Alpine town with historical roots is nestled in a magnificent landscape. Chur is the cultural center of Graubünden and bishop's seat. Numerous boutiques, restaurants, bars, museums and galleries create an almost Mediterranean flair in its thoroughly car-free old town. As the hub of the Rhaetian Railway, another famous railroad line opens up to us from Chur, followed by a fantastic cycling route. With the Rhaetian Railway you travel from Chur to Thusis. Even today, the long Albula line is considered a masterpiece in terms of railroad technology and routing. Once in Thusis, you cycle off the rails through the notorious Via Mala. Eerie legends entwine around the gloomy gorge of the Hinterrhein. After a drinks break in the gorge, you will cycle above the Hinterrhein on a panoramic route back to Chur. The bike route takes you through small well-kept villages, past medieval fortifications and magnificent castles back to your hotel in the old town of Chur. 2nd overnight stay and dinner in Chur.
Day 8: Departure from Chur
Our hotel is located in the middle of the enchanting metropolis of Chur and invites you to extend your trip. The departure can be planned comfortably by ICE or by plane from Zurich.
